Once Mama gave in, I persuaded my friends to join me in fixing up the old boat by Papa's birthday. When we saw the old boat, we were shock because it turned out to be more dilapidated （破旧） than we had expected. Staring at it, I hesitated for a while, but quickly realized that if I wanted to give Papa a birthday surprise , I had to have a try. "Nothing was impossible." An inner voice told me. Then, we started to repair it. Hark work did pay off. With our joint efforts, the old boat finally became a nice boat. We hoped that Papa would be proud of the boat as he and Ralph went out on the lake again.
On the day of Papa's birthday, we all gathered at Papa's house early to give him a big surprise. In addition to repairing the boat, we put sandwiches and dog biscuits on it. Mama also bought Papa a new hat in the same color as the boat’s. With everything prepared, we took Papa to the boat. Looking at the boat, he was surprised, hardly believing what had happened. Delighted and moved, he tried to hold back his tears but in vain. Then a warm current welled up in his heart. Knowing what I had done for him, he gave me a big hug and expressed his gratitude to me for what I had done for him, saying"Thank you so much. I believe it will be the best gift in my life. " Soon, we all stood by the lake and watched as Papa and Ralph sailed away, Papa waving and laughing. I hadn’t seen him so happy for a long time.Only then did I realize that nothing is more precious than the love among families. |
